Hacktoberfest: Contribute & Earn limited edition swags!
Ever since last year, Whenever I get to hear the word ‘October’ I get this ‘Hacktober’fest on my mind…(obsessed with that name, lol).
What’s Hacktoberfest?
It is an October-long…I mean the month-long celebration of open-source projects/software by DigitalOcean.
Everyone ( right from students to developers) across the global contributes to open-source projects!
Who should Participate? EVERYONE!
If you’re a newbie to the world of open-source contributions, then this would be the perfect start for you!
If you’re someone who wants to learn and understand how Git and GitHub works, then this is the right chance!
If you want to grow your skills and network as a developer, it is a pretty good opportunity as the whole global community will be part of this!
How to Participate in Hacktoberfest?
Step-1: Register on the official site of Hacktoberfest
Step-2: Tick the Checkbox (contributor).
You can sign up anytime between October 1 and October 31. Just be sure to sign up on the official Hacktoberfest website for your pull requests to count.
Rules:
- One should make 4 Valid PR’s(pull requests) to be eligible for swags.
- PR’s can be made in either Github or Gitlab repositories. Look for the ‘hacktoberfest’ topic to know if a project is participating in Hacktoberfest.
How to make a pull request?
Choose a project repo that has either ‘hacktoberfest’ label on it or has issues labeled ‘Hacktoberfest’!
You can also choose this repo to contribute:
Read CONTRIBUTING.md file or README.md files for all guidelines and details of that particular project.
And then, if you feel that’s the right repo for you
Follow these steps:
- Fork and download the repository
- Navigate to the folder where you’ve saved your code
- Make a new branch ( with any name)
- Make your changes
- Push it back to your repo
- Click the Compare & pull request button
- Click Create a pull request to open a new pull request.

Well, If you followed all instructions without any mistakes then your PR gets merged!
After 4 successful PR’s and the review period is over, you will receive a mail from hacktoberfest team for redeeming your Swags🎉
